Erhürman's message on mixed marriages and EU citizenship
UN proposals highlight EU citizenship for children of mixed marriages and bicommunal sports activities.

President Tufan Erhürman evaluated the inclusion of European Union (EU) citizenship for children born of mixed marriages and cooperation in sports in international initiatives regarding the Cyprus issue as an important development.
Evaluating the 7 proposals put forward by United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Northern Cyprus President Tufan Erhürman stated that the inclusion of the EU citizenship issue for children born of mixed marriages in the package was notable.
Pointing out that the issue in question should be addressed beyond political bargaining, Erhürman emphasized the importance of protecting children's rights.
Touching upon the proposals for cooperation in the field of sports, the President stated that bringing together children under the age of 15 through joint events organized between the two communities would contribute to the development of social relations.
Sharing his approach regarding the Cyprus negotiations, Erhürman underlined that the process should not merely consist of continuing talks, but must be based on a concrete solution objective.
Furthermore, expressing that consultations with Ankara are ongoing, Erhürman noted that actions are being taken in line with joint evaluations on the Cyprus issue.
